The new blog post by Robinson Iron provides a glimpse of the magic of created by KGA and Robinson Iron’s work together since 1989.

In 1991 Kelly Gale Amen couldn’t find the right piece of furniture for a client, so he created one. The cast bronze triple bench with a fossil stone top was the first in a series of art furniture pieces created by this gifted artist. Amen knew right away that he had embarked on a journey, but maybe not that it would become his passion to create a collection of unique art furniture.*
Amen’s art furniture collection was conceived with a desire to incorporate the historic elements of traditional furniture making. Dovetail & dowel joinery are used along with sand casting of the metals to create the individual elements of each KGA Art Furniture piece. The labor intense casting process is followed by polishing, buffing and the application of an ever-expanding variety of patinas, colorizations and finishes. The editions are numbered, but not limited, to guarantee provenance for collectors and municipalities. The square knee and tapered leg are the cohesive elements of the entirety of KGA Art Furniture. The collection uses these basic forms and introduces aprons, curves, cuts and reverses to expand the overall body of work.

While many agree that three-dimensional works of art, ‘sculpture’ exist primarily in space visually, the impact of functional art on humans is more complex. When function is added to form the human element is further illuminated through tactical involvement. Perhaps we become the object of the art.
