Nothing better to combat the heat than a colourful visual feast. KGA Design’s mastery of colour has been discussed and analysed by thousands of people all over the world. One thing remains certain: with delicate touches and an orchestral finesse to chromatic crescendos, Kelly Gale Amen knows how to use colour.
Colour lives everywhere. You could even say there are no rules. You don’t have any colourful accents? Buy some paint.
Every so often, colour is equivocated to colour blocking. Nothing further from the truth – patterns are the best colour source.
To make colour stand out, you need a background on which it stands. A few touches on the right canvas can feel like a flood.
Nothing brings a touch of color like natural decoration. Do we mean flowers? Yes and no. Natural decoration covers any organic object, obtained from nature (produce, flowers, mud, cotton), used for decorative purposes. Naturally – no pun intended – the organic version is to be preferred. But if you’re after permanence, a good artificial replica can do the trick just as well.
The trick is hard to articulate. We’ve tried, trust us. We spent hours on end with Kelly, only to discover that, when asked what his secret is, he doesn’t even know himself. It comes from within, a sense of harmony when things are in order, a sense of peace when chromatic energies match. It can’t be taught, but it can be felt. So the best advice we’ve got is: trust your gut.
Colour does not have to scream. Most of the time, a sweet whisper is more than enough to make a statement. If anything, it’s classy.
Even in the dullest of rooms, art brings true life. It’s not only about colour, but vision. And intentional vision is what will take you there.
When playtime is over, it’s time to get serious. Colour can be fun in small doses, and everyone can and must experiment with it. At KGA design, however, we do our best to elevate it to fine art.
