HUMIDOR EXHIBITION & AUCTION

“SMOKE & MIRRORS”

An Invitational Exhibition & Benefit Auction of One-of-a-kind HumidorsOn November 9, 1997 La Strada (on San Felipe), the newest location of this “institution” among upscale Houston restaurants, will host a Gala Fund-raiser and Auction of 20 hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind cigar humidors benefiting the ASOFA. These museum quality humidors were commissioned by the ASOFA and created by a select group of ASOFA members, studio furniture makers including some of the most well known and collectible names in the U.S. today – Wendell Castle, Garry Knox Bennett, Wendy Maruyama, and many others.

Select humidors will be on view at various even sponsors prior to being auctioned off at the November fund-raiser. Interested buyers unable to attend in person may place advance reserve bids over the Internet and by phone. For information about placing a reserve bid, please contact ASOFA.

Each of the humidors are fitted with top-of-the-line Credo humidifiers and hygrometers, imported from France and distributed by Hollco-Rohr, one of the even sponsors. Other major sponsors include General Cigar Company – makers of Partagas and Macanudo cigars; Holt’s Cigar Company; and Nat Sherman’s – Tobacconist to the world for over 60 years.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the American Society of Furniture Artists. ASOFA’s efforts to integrate hand-crafted furniture into people’s daily lived help support and promote the field of art furniture while extending the concept and use of art beyond traditional boundaries. ASOFA was organized in 1989 as the first nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the field of hand-crafted furniture and currently has over 600 members in 45 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.
