Making a Mark Helps Children Tell Stories of Hope and Courage

an article from the TCH Intranet
This year will mark the 20th Anniversary of Texas Children’s Cancer Center’s Making A Mark – an exhibit of art and creative writing by children touched by cancer and blood disorders. The unique collection focuses on the personal issues that surround childhood illness as expressed by the children themselves.

The program, a partnership between The Periwinkle Foundation and Texas Children’s Cancer Center, takes place in the waiting room at Texas Children’s Cancer Center, giving cancer patients and their siblings something to look forward to when coming in for treatment.

In the photos below, artist Kelly Gale Amen works with participants to create pieces for the show. Amen was the first guest artist for Making A Mark in 1999. He is one of nine featured artists collaborating to create artwork for the exhibit.
